Kids Would Learn More in School if their Parents Weren't So in to Sports
It's probably a good thing no one reads this blog, because this post is virtually guaranteed to make me unpopular. People say that social security is the "third rail" of American politics but I would suggest that another sacred cow is the American love affair with sports.
If you suggest to parents that their kids might be doing better in their classes if they cut back on sports and other activities to give them time to study, they look at you like you are crazy in my experience.
Obviously if you are the parent of a future Serena, Lebron, Tiger, Caitlin, etc... by all means you should make sure that your kid keeps the focus on their sport, and, in fact, I see no reason whatsoever why your student should have to worry about learning calculus or data science, etc... but if you're the parent of an average athlete, they might do better in school if they didn't use up all of their time and energy at practice.
